Heart & History of East-West

A Retrospective Event

John’s closing prayer for our Heart & History event.

This was the moment for me.

In featuring my favorite moments, I have to begin with the last one. The closing prayer from John Maisel. Hearing this brother engage the Throne is the sweetest picture of a man who’s life has been, as is being, lived only to the face of God. A man truly living to an audience of One!

So, what IS the heart of East-West?

The closing video clip for our Heart & History event provides a great summary of the heart of East-West. We hear from team members in the field, all of whom have been part of that heartbeat for decades. Then, a closing admonition from John Maisel that reveals his heart as well. (For sercurity reasons, some faces had to be blurred to allow us to post online.)

What’s the heart of East-West?

Kurt Nelson, our CEO, who knows well the suffering of the saints.

Our CEO reflects on suffering.

John Maisel, in one of the Heart & History event videos from 1995, told our staff, “You’ve got to be prepared to endure hardship. The work before us is a costly work. But, it is a magnificent work!” I don’t know if I know anyone who understands that any better than our CEO, Kurt Nelson.

And, worship with Sammy.

This "retro" worship with Sammy Davenport, is reminiscent of the worship that characterized these last three decades on mission. The song, “Shout to the Lord”, I've probably heard in as many languages as any song. Sammy won’t be pleased I’m posting this since he is featured so prominently, both in the video and the sound mix (not to mention the poor Zoom recording), but for those who love him as I do, I'm offering this for your own worship experience. It's not about him anyway. It's about Him!

“It’s not about him. It’s about Him!”
